Putting together quality music is not as easy as it seems. Getting all the ingredients together and viging them the right mix is not just a science, it’s an art.
When I first heard Al Jarreau sing Across The Midnight Sky I was captured by that moment of appreciating quality art in action. The ingredients are mixed together to leave an impression of having heard something right for the senses and stimulating the brain as a whole. It’s one thing to applaud the masterful vocals of Jarreau of himself, but the backing vocals and the musicians and music structure is outstanding.
So having set the standard high doing a cover has its challenges. The Right Stuff are not going to be remembered by the world as a group of epic ratings. Yet their effort in their rendition of the tune is something not to be dismissed at all. So as you ponder that quandary, you have the tune to savour twice. Enjoy.
