Sherlock Holmes – Game Of Shadows: Movie Review

Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law return in the roles of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.  Will Game of Shadows compare well to the first film?  Is it a good continuation of what made the first film so good?  Game of Shadows, then, takes it place in the list of films that are sequels.

Sequels are notorious exercises.  It is one thing to put together an exciting film, it is another thing to follow that up and maintain an audience’s interest in what made it so exciting in the first place.  On the one hand you have to maintain some key ingredients that made the enterprise of interest in the first place.  On the other hand, you don’t want to basically have a re-hash of the first film or else others will find that too boring.  So the mixture of the new and the old is the desire.  If there is a set idea of a trilogy taking place, there is not as much pressure for the second film to be that great. Ih however the second film is just a second chapter in a  series there is considerable pressure for that film to come up with the goods.
