So we’re watching the modern version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factor starring Johnny Depp. We being Deborah, Abigail, Kevaughn, David and myself. I’ve never watched it before, so I’m glad I caught it now. It’s always the way to compare one movie to another when they’re a remake. To be fair, this is not a remake, this is another adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic. It’s not fair then to compare Depp’s portrayal with Gene Wilder’s. The vision of director Tim Burton is all Burton from his vision of a lot of movies. So it’s not fair to compare. What it does trigger is a memory of the old, especially with the notorious Oompah Loompahs. So I thought I would do us all the service of taking us back to those mischievous chocolate makers. I do love their way of whimsically summarising the action and exploring the moral of the story. Enjoy.
